Genie Dances INTO ITC FOR 2018
As we set upon a new season in Irish motorsport, fans this morning were shocked to see the new I20 R5 sitting in the NEC in Birmingham for the Autosport show. Images quickly went viral of the 5 time consecutive Irish Tarmac Champion Eugene Donnelly’s new car.
Over the past couple of years rumours had circulated that “the Genie” would make a return on the Irish Tarmac Circuit but no one predicted in what or when until this morning, all was revealed.
A source close to Eugene said “this is a very exciting time for the Donnelly Motorsport team, this new R5 is something that will turn heads on the back roads of Ireland and the team are looking forward to the first event in West Cork in 2018.”
The Genie is no stranger to making the unexpected work when he brought his Corolla WRC to great success on the Irish stages. Like any new rally car this will take time to be set up for Irish Rallying, the car will be ran by Derek McGeehan of McGeehan motorsport and his team for 2018. Speaking to Derek this morning, Derek said “the development of tyres with this car is going to be crucial as MRF tyres are a new company in Ireland “. Derek and his team will be working closely with them for the development of the tyres for the Irish stages.
Rallyinterviews would like to wish the “Genie” and the team all the success with their new R5 in 2018, we can’t wait to see this car on the stages in Ireland. If the Genie can rub this R5 like previous cars, we have no doubt that this new I20 R5 will be onto winning ways on the Irish stages.
